Ohoho, it's contest time guys! REMIX contest time! That's right, beginning today [11/12/2009], I'm opening a gnarly little contest headed up by me and made significantly better by you! I've always felt that art contests are the quintessential elements that make the dA experience tremblingly exciting and irrevocably interesting. And with the bloody stellar artists here, I'm completely orbital thinking about the well-o-aesthetic might ready to flood forth. To the details!

This is bit of a concept I conjured up on a late Saturday night [as when most good conjuring is done] involving the aforementioned remix theme. The goal here is to wrap yourself in the guise of an art DJ. Don a sideways sun visor, upside-down, live in a massive headset, and bring your notebook and vinyls!

But man, as an art DJ, what would you do? Remix art pieces, that's what! Specifically mine and yours. Grab your characters and place them into one of my scenes, or snatch up my characters and recreate them in one of your settings. You could even swap characters' personalities with each other: Take a character of mine and mix with one of yours their clothes, their gestures, even their genders, and vice versa! The possibility of your remix is virtually endless. Here's an example!



♪ The contest begins November 12 and ends January 2.
♪ One entry per artist but the artist can change entry at any time during the contest!
♪ Entry should centralise around the "remix" theme; placing a personal spin by mashing-up established scenes and characters of the artists'.
♪ Original characters only please.
♪ Choice of media is completely up to the artist -- illustration, writing, sculpture, mixed media, etc., are all accepted!
♪ Entries will be judged by creative output over all else. Technical rendering, process, and presentation will only be very minimal factors.

Prizes will be:
♪ First place -- One year deviantART subscription and a fully illustrated [coloured with background] request done by me.
♪ Second place -- Three month deviantART subscription and a simple illustration [inked, coloured] request done by me.
♪ Third place -- One month deviantART subscription and a simple illustration request done by me.
♪ 3 Honourable mentions -- Each will receive a simple illustration request done by me.
♪ ALL placing artists will receive a one month feature in my journal!





The focus of this contest is to encourage artists to think about character development and to explore the possibilities of placing their creations in another creator's universe or the other way around. It's all about interaction! I welcome any and all questions, whether they be about participation, execution, or for clarification of the contest goals. I hope it's not too confusing, I'm a bit of a headcase sometimes~
